Bear Cartage & Intermodal, Inc. is a family owned logistics company employing a large owner operator fleet. They have two main lines of business: cross-town work from rail to rail, and full truckload work. The company services the Midwestern states of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, and Wisconsin.
Bear Cartage was handling the various aspects of their business in four different Access databases. Staff spent a lot of time and effort to maintain data across all four databases.
Communication between drivers, dispatchers, and accounting took a lot of time and wasted a lot of paper. Sometimes mistakes were made like a driver missing a pickup or delivery, or customer being charged for or refusing to pay an accessorial. This combination of inefficiencies and lost opportunities cost Bear Cartage time and money.
alligatortek worked with Bear Cartage to develop a single web-based application to handle all aspects of their business, from dispatch to accounting. During the discovery and design phases of the project, alligatortek was able to consolidate multiple processes by creating functions and screens that provided all information and data to the right person at the right time.
The new system’s order entry, rate negotiation, and dispatch modules are streamlined to provide each staff member the tools to efficiently perform their jobs.
Drivers are able to use their mobile phones to receive load information and add or update notes and accessorials to the load record. Accounting staff are able to keep track of invoices, receivables, charges, accessorials, loans, and pay checks in one complete system.
