Electronic Data Interchange – A Large Book Manufacturer
Our client, GBM, has been in business for 40 years, supplying pre-bound library books to schools and libraries worldwide. As one of the fastest growing book distributors in the United States, our client is known for their commitment to excellent quality and outstanding customer service. The company is a full-service resource for their customers by offering thousands of titles from major publishers as well as many small, independent presses. They serve almost 20,000 school libraries and public libraries.
For the past decade, libraries have become computerized and technology-savvy by identifying areas that can be digitized. GBM did not have the ability to process orders electronically, so their clients were looking at other sellers who could process orders quickly.
GBM realized that if they offer their clients the option to send the orders electronically, they would be able to retain most of their clients and find new clients who are interested in sending electronic orders.
The customized solution designed by alligatortek was simple, efficient, and intuitive. Order files can now be sent directly from a library’s ILS (Interactive Library System) to the company’s shared location. These orders are then picked up by the EDI application and loaded into the database for further processing.
Our client now has the option to process their customers’ orders electronically, see order details, send acknowledgements, and process invoices. Users also don’t have to key in the information for existing customers – the EDI application allows users to pull in demographic and contact information from the existing database.
