E-commerce Platform – An Animal Conservation Society
The Animal Conservation Society (ACS) is a private nonprofit based near Chicago, IL. ACS is internationally recognized for its cutting-edge animal care and conservation of nature. The organization seeks to inspire and engage children, students, teachers, and other wildlife enthusiasts to make a positive impact on the natural world around them.
ACS developed their E-Commerce system in-house over a 10-year period, so general site maintenance had become problematic. There were numerous bugs and the graphic design of the site had become fragmented, making the site unappealing, so the ticket and membership registration page needed to be redesigned with the updated framework. ACS was also looking to fix their donation, event registration and product pages by re- factoring the website.
ACS’s E-Commerce system was built using classic ASP, ASP.NET 1.1 and ASP.NET 2.0, meaning their entire system now needed to be standardized on a solid, proven and supportable platform and framework.
The custom solution alligatortek created was a completely new E-Commerce platform to replace their previous system. This application upgraded ACS’s existing external and backstage websites to Kentico 7.0, a Microsoft web content management system that is used to create websites and online stores.
All existing pages were rebuilt as Kentico 7.0, while ACS’s ASP.NET and classic ASP pages were converted to Kentico as well. The dynamic pages previously generated via PageGen were converted to Kentico too. Now, there was a logical grouping of functions and modules within their website.

File-Snapshot Backups to Microsoft Azure Blob Storage

The File-Snapshot backup, introduced in SQL Server 2016, is capable of quickly performing a backup and restore.
